Ministry Marketing... For some pastors or church staff, the phrase "Ministry Marketing" may be an oxymoron. Perhaps "Publicity" is a more palatable term. Since 1995, John Gilmore has been blessed with the privilege of assisting numerous churches and ministries in the area of marketing communications, or publicity, and we would welcome the opportunity to do the same for you as well. Every church or ministry has a need to communicate regularly to two groups... the existing membership (or financial support base of a ministry) and new prospects. The challenge is to effectively do so without compromising the God-given calling of the church or ministry. We must avoid the temptation to believe we are guaranteed success simply because we employ certain marketing strategies. God must be part of, in fact, central to the equation. There is a ministry need today for effective, relevant messages that the Holy Spirit can use to grow the Church. We believe it is a far stretch to believe God can bless a cookie-cutter approach of simply switching out church logos and contact information on an existing campaign. Jesus adapted His message to his audience wherever He went. His mission never changed, but He was always relevant for the moment, saying exactly the right thing at the right time in the right way. He would always use the perfect illustration or parable that would connect with His audience to drive home His point.
